Summer break can be such a sweet time. Lazy mornings, popsicles on the patio, and maybe a little less pressure to keep up with structured lessons. But if your kids are anything like mine, “bored” starts creeping in around day three. That’s exactly where our Busy Binders come in.
These print-and-go activity binders are designed to keep young minds engaged through hands-on learning, no matter the season. And honestly? They have been one of my favorite tools to keep around during the summer months. I’ve written about them multiple times over the years and even have a highlight showing some binders I made for giveaway winners on Instagram.
So, What Are Busy Binders?
If you’re new to the Busy Binder world, picture this: a three-ring binder full of fun, reusable, screen-free activities that your kids can pull off the shelf whenever they need something to do. Everything from letter tracing and number recognition to science puzzles and Bible-based activities, all sorted neatly in sheet protectors or laminated with Velcro and dry-erase markers at the ready.
They’re perfect for preschool through early elementary and I’ve got different sets based on age and subject to make it easy to customize for your child.
Why They’re Perfect for Summer
One of the reasons I love using Busy Binders in the summer is that they’re so easy. No prep after that initial print-and-laminate setup, no mess, and kids can use them independently. That means you can finish folding the laundry or sip your coffee in peace while they “play school.” The content is even more effective if you sit down and enjoy them together!
And because everything is self-contained, they’re super portable. Heading to the park? Bring a binder. Long car ride? Binder. Waiting room? Binder. You get the idea.
Plus, it’s not just busy work. Yes, I know they’re called “Busy Binders”, but it’s more about keeping little hands and minds active. These activities build real skills like fine motor control, letter and number fluency, early math concepts, vocabulary, and even Bible knowledge. It’s all learning!
What’s Inside?
Depending on the set you choose, your Busy Binder might include:
-
Tracing and handwriting pages
-
Counting games with spinners or dice
-
CVC word building
-
Shape and color matching
-
Simple anatomy puzzles
- Life skills like address and phone number practice
-
Bible verse activities and faith-based themes
You can start with a full-grade-level binder (from Preschool all the way up to Fourth Grade) or mix and match subject packs like Numbers & Shapes, and Alphabet & Colors. You can even choose from three volumes of Bible Busy Binders!
And everything’s designed with reusable learning in mind. Just print on cardstock, laminate, and let your kids have at it! Find my favorite assembly supplies here.
A Mama-Favorite for a Reason
I’ve heard from so many other moms that Busy Binders have saved their sanity, especially during summer break when routines are more relaxed but kids still need structure.
It’s one of those things that feels like play to your child but gives you peace of mind knowing they’re still learning. And when everything is tucked neatly in one binder, you’re not hunting down crayons or trying to remember where you left the flashcards.

Ready for your own Busy Binder?
If you’ve got a laminator and a printer (or just a favorite local print shop), you’re halfway there. Add some Velcro dots, bust out the laminator, and boom! Your summer just got a whole lot smoother.
