I recently shared a sneak peek of my new Roman Numerals Activity Set in my Instagram stories. I had a sweet mom message me saying how timely this set is as her little one had just asked her a question about “Word War ‘eye-eye.'” I literally laughed out loud! So incredibly cute, but we’ll take this as a sign that a special math lesson is needed soon.
This set is designed specifically for homeschoolers who want to make learning engaging for their children. Whether you’re introducing Roman numerals for the first time or reinforcing what your kids already know, these activities are perfect for elementary-aged students.
Why learn Roman numerals?
Learning this skill is not just a fun historical throwback (although, how cool is it when two subjects line up!?)—it also helps:
- Boost Math Skills: Roman numerals build a strong foundation for understanding number systems and patterns, which is a key math skill.
- Improve Critical Thinking: Converting between Roman numerals and standard Arabic numbers encourages logical reasoning and problem-solving.
- Foster Cultural Awareness: Roman numerals are everywhere—in books, movies, and even the Super Bowl! Your kids will feel a sense of pride when they can read the numerals on a clock or figure out the year a movie was made.
- Encourage Attention to Detail: Roman numerals require precision, which sharpens attention to detail—a valuable life skill.
What’s included in the set:
- Display Charts: Hang these up for easy reference during lessons.
- Matching Game: Let your kids match Roman numerals to their corresponding numbers—it’s a great way to test their knowledge! To assemble this activity I used a 1″ circle punch for the round pieces, laminated the back page and pieces, then used Velcro dots to hold them in place.
- “Build A Number” Cards: Create Roman numerals interactively. It’s hands-on fun that boosts their understanding! I used a mini chalkboard to write out the numbers to build.
- Roman Numeral Bingo: Learning while playing Bingo? Yes, please! With three different cards and a call sheet, this game is a hit!

A few fun ways to use the Roman Numerals Activity Set:
Here are some creative ideas for adding this fun set to your next math lesson-
- Bingo Night: Turn it into a family game night! Let your kids take turns being the “caller” and practice reading aloud Roman numerals.
- Scavenger Hunt: Go on a hunt around the house (or neighborhood) to find Roman numerals! Look for them on clocks, books, movie credits, or even on buildings. Reward your kids with extra points when they find one!
- Time to Build: Use the “Build A Number” cards to create your family’s birth years or important dates. Let your kids build their own birthday and share what they’ve learned.
- Roman Numeral of the Day: Add a Roman numeral to your daily routine! Every morning, display a new number on the fridge or chalkboard for your kids to decode.
Why Hands-On Learning?
Kids learn best when they’re engaged and having fun. Encourage active learning—no more boring lessons or rote memorization! These activities are designed to be both educational and enjoyable, helping your children build confidencewhile learning a valuable skill.
Whether you’re a homeschool parent or a teacher looking to add a new twist to your math lessons, this set is a great fit. This new activity set is versatile, easy to use, and perfect for keeping your kids excited about learning.
