We’re well into our first year of homeschooling now and we’re loving it! Squeaks is devouring information as fast as I can put it in front of her. Early reading skills and beginning sounds have become one of our favorite topics. She loves sounding out words, finding similarities, and matching words together.
I wish you could have seen Squeaks face when I told her that, after learning to read, she could read ANY book in the world. Priceless. Pure excitement. She has been so motivated ever since to practice every day and I have LOVED to watch her progress.
By way of encouraging her to keep up the good work, I’ve created a few new posters and a fun beginning sounds activity.
The alphabet poster is something I probably should have created a while ago. Alphabet activities are preschool bread and butter. Is there any homeschool mom who doesn’t start singing the ABCs from day one? “A” will always be for apple. And “LMNO” is pretty much its own word in every toddler’s vocabulary.

The other two pages in this bundle include a great vowel sounds reference poster and a fun beginning sounds memory game. Great activities for those early readers!
Vowels are a brand new concept for Squeaks, so this poster will come in handy and the beginning sounds memory game will be great for reinforcing her enthusiasm for sounding things out. She still tends to mix up letter sounds (especially m and n) so I think having a visual reminder and introducing it as a game is going to be very helpful. And fun!
Just to be on the safe side, since I know there are different schools of though on how to teach the x sound, I included two options. You can chose between a cute little fox (obviously this is an ending sound) and an x-ray picture. Both are included in the set.
I laminated all of them for durability. For the matching activity, I used a one-inch circle punch to cut out the little circles (although scissors work just fine) and 5/8″ clear Velcro dots to attach them to the page. This makes it reusable and super satisfying for little ones to pull the pictures on and off.

I’m excited to add these fun resources to our Busy Binder and help Squeaks develop her love of words and reading!
