As promised, I wanted to give you a look inside our preschool morning binder, the binder I use during our morning basket time.
The kids really enjoyed our calendar board, and I did too, but I wanted to take full advantage of the fact the homeschooling can be not only educational but also comfortable and bonding as a family. So we moved our morning routine to the couch, stayed in our jammies, and cuddled while we learned together.
Here’s what’s in our morning binder:
The calendar from our board was obviously too big to fit in our binder so I created a new one. I think my version is better though because it introduces the idea of monthly abbreviations, month number and order, and there’s a spot for the year. There’s also a spot to record the month’s holidays. I laminated it (so it’s also dry erase) and added my beloved velcro dots to attach all the dates, months, etc. I keep the extra pieces and a dry erase marker in a clear zipper pocket just behind the calendar. Love it!

Since the kids still loved the activities on our calendar board, I took a lot of them off and added them to our binder. You’ll recognize our Days of The Week wheel, Weather wheel, Seasons wheel, shapes poster, alphabet poster, and numbers 1-10 poster (available in our Printables library!).
As I mentioned in my previous post, I wanted to add music to our morning routine. So not only are we learning hymns together, but I also found these great kids Bible songs to print out. These are classics like This Little Light Of Mine and I’m In The Lord’s Army! Stuff I remember singing in preschool! We’re having a ton of fun with them. I actually even remember a lot of the hand motions that go with some of them, like Father Abraham, but if you don’t know them, YouTube is your friend.
I typed up a few other educational classics too, including the song we sing when we do our Weather wheel and Seasons wheel. I’m adding these to our Printables Library so feel free to grab those.

Then I found these super cute shapes poems and we’ve turned them into a game. I’ll pick a shape and read the poem, then Squeaks will run around the room and point out the shape wherever she can find it. Little Dude is even starting to join in on this one.
Next are these great monthly poems. There are two poems for every month of the year. We haven’t gone so far as to memorize them each month but we do enjoy reading them as the month changes and then a couple times throughout the month too.
The last thing in our morning binder is mostly just for mom. It’s my printable homeschool planner (also available in our Printables Library). I’ve laminated mine so it’s dry erase. It’s nice to see it at the beginning of the day. Although, full disclosure, I’m still not great at keeping it as up to date as I should, but I try!
We’re loving our preschool morning binder!
So after we’ve gone through our binder we move on to the other books and activities in our morning basket. I love that everything is organized and easy to put away when not in use.I even created a cute binder cover you’re welcome to print out and use for your binder.
This new routine has been great for us. I wish I had started it a little earlier in the year. Now that summer is a few weeks away, we’ve let up on structured school a bit. Once Squeaks officially starts school again in the fall (she just turned four so we have a little head start) we’ll be using our morning basket and binder a lot more!

Are the files editable? We’re a multilingual family and would love to use them in the different languages we speak.
Arrows & Applesauce says
Hi Sendy, I’m sorry but the files are not editable.

How do you store the months, numbers, etc for the calendar?
Kristen says
I keep everything in a binder and use pencil pouches. Target has ones that are clear and zip closed.
Kristen says
Hi Jennifer! I keep everything in a clear pencil pouch at the front of the binder.
