My older two kiddos have both recognized a few letters or numbers by two years old, but colors seem to really fascinate them. These kiddos of mine are just drawn to color. Multi-colored pompoms, a box full of crayons, or their “Baby’s First Colors” books, they love it all. Adding color activities to our day has provided so much fun!
Little Dude is right at the very beginning of his color recognition journey. He loves his Colors book and requests it almost every night at bedtime. I wanted to start adding more color-related activities to our daily routine though. Squeaks has had her colors down for a while but a little review never hurt anyone and new games are always fun.
I’ve created two new color activities to add to our busy binders.
In the past, pompom sorting was a huge hit but it can get a bit messy when Little Dude decides he’d rather sweep the pompoms around the kitchen instead of sorting them. I would find pompoms hidden around the house for weeks after.
This first color activity is a super cute paint themed matching game! Just print, laminate, and add Velcro dots! There’s just something about those Velcro dots. They’re like toddler catnip! Maybe it’s the sound of the satisfying rip as you pull them off the sheet. Either way, this fun little game will keep your kiddos engaged. It’s simple, clean, and can be stored neatly in your busy binder.

The second addition to our busy binder is a Color Hunt game! Squeaks was a huge fan of our grocery store scavenger hunt (as was I) so this one is just as exciting. Plus Little Dude can join in the learning fun. You’re going to need a few things to complete this printable.
- laminator and pouches
- brad pin
- thin piece of cardboard
- small washer
- hole punch
- glue
Once you’ve printed out the game wheel, cut off the bottom portion with the arrow on it.
Cut out the arrow and laminate it along with the game wheel. Attach your cut out arrow to the thin piece of cardboard to make it extra sturdy. Sandwich the metal washer between the arrow and the game board, then attach all three pieces together using the brad pin. Keep it fairly loose to allow to arrow to spin easily.
To play, spin the wheel and hunt for items in that color around the house, in the yard, at the park, or anywhere you’d like! Add another element by rolling dice and find a certain number of items in that color.
