Squeaks is entering Kindergarten, and Little Dude is starting preschool. I can hardly believe it! Time is just flying by. I can’t wait to share our picks for our preschool and kindergarten curriculum for the upcoming school year.
My goals for our Preschool and Kindergarten curriculum:
My goals for this year are very focused. I don’t believe kindergarten, and especially preschool, need to be super intense and rigorous. We will still be allowing for plenty of play time. I’m aiming for about 40 minutes a day of structured learning time with Squeaks, and no more than 20 minutes a day with Little Dude. That means everything you see in these videos will not be happening daily. The only subjects we will cover daily will be Bible time (done with our morning basket during breakfast), reading/phonics, and math. Science, history, geography, and any other structured lessons we may add during the year will rotate daily through the week (meaning we may only cover each of those topics once a week).
When thinking and praying about our focus for this coming year, I came to two clear purposes.
First, encouraging our kids to grow in their faith and knowledge of Christ. This is far and away my number one goal and always will be. If we are focused on God and His purpose for our lives, everything else is gravy.
Our second goal is reading. Once I can get them reading, not only can they pursue their own interests easier, but they will also be able do a good portion of their school work independently. They can read their own math lesson, read their history, and so on, with me close by for guidance and question-answering of course.
So grab a cup of coffee (or tea if you’re like me 😉 ) and get comfy. The first video is slightly long, as far as YouTube videos go (15 minutes), but I wanted to give you a good peek inside each book we’ll be using this coming school year. The second video covers only our Bible resources because I wanted to also give you a look inside our Bible busy binder.
I’ve provided links to all the books below. Enjoy!

History & Geography
- Bede’s History Of Me (UPDATE: This curriculum did not last long. Very disjointed and not user friendly. I recommend reading the most recent product reviews before purchasing.)
- Geography From A to Z (I couldn’t find a link for this since I purchased mine used. I highly recommend checking Thriftbooks.com though. They get new inventory all the time.)
Art & Storytelling
Bible
- The New City Catechism
- Jesus Storybook Bible
- The Ology: Ancient Truths, Ever New
- My Bible Busy Binder:
There you have it! I think we have some great books lined up for the year. If you have questions about anything I picked (or would like to make recommendations) please feel free to contact me.
Up next I’ll be organizing all our books and supplies to keep our school days moving easily (or at least easier 😉 ). I’m also working on our Kindergarten Busy Binder (see my post on our preschool binders here), so I’ll be sharing that too!
What curriculum are you using this year? What made you choose it?
Christa says
I’m curious how you liked all the curricula you chose. I’m looking at kindergarten curricula for my son in the fall, and I’d like to know how all of this worked out for you. 🙂
Thanks!

Hi Christa, I recently wrote a blog post titled Year End Curriculum Review. It has all of my thoughts on the curriculum we used over the last school year.

Hi there. I’m just curious why you don’t use the Masters Books for phonics as well?
Kristen says
Honestly, at the time I wrote this, I didn’t know Masterbooks had phonics curriculum. Lol! We are very happy with what we chose though. I may try Masterbooks in the future, but right now what we have is working very well.
