As we leave the baby stage of parenting with our youngest child turning six in just a few short months, I’m more and more motivated to celebrate and create traditions as a family. My kids will actually remember them now!😂 Not that traditions created in the baby years aren’t valid, they’re just a little more chaotic and blurry-eyed in the haze of early parenthood. But Easter is one of my favorite times of the year and so I’m looking forward to making it a core memory for our kids as they get older.
We put a lot of emphasis on Christmas, the world and Christians alike, just in different ways. Maybe it’s the lack of presents that makes Easter a “lesser” holiday, but it’s really not! It’s the culmination of what Christmas stands for. Christmas is great, but without Easter, it just wouldn’t hold the same weight. They go together in the most beautiful, full, and glorious way. This is what I want my children to remember!
I wanted to share some of the ways I plan to make Easter memorable for our kids.
My Easter countdown banner is still going strong. I made this banner, with a Bible verse reference for each day of Holy Week, back in 2018. It has hung from our mantle every year since. During those blurry-eyed years, I may not have read each verse with the kids or even done the countdown, but this year our morning basket routine will lend itself perfectly to this habit. Each morning we can read and discuss the events of the week leading up to Christ’s crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. A perfect way to start the morning and carry the joy of Easter into our day.

I can’t take credit for this next one, because my mom actually found this pattern. These fabric eggs have little treat pockets in them! So stinkin’ cute! They’re a perfect alternative to those plastic eggs that I seem to find around the house for months after Easter, and eventually, end up in a landfill. They can be customized for each child depending on the fabric you choose and used year after year. My mother is sewing some for the kids, but the pattern looks like even I could handle it. Squeaks (who has been taking sewing lessons from my mom) jumped right in and had a blast making some herself.
The sewing pattern is from Postal Threads on Etsy, and you can get it here!
To compliment our cute little eggs I’ll be reprinting a PDF I used last year. A Bible-based scavenger hunt! I think this is a fantastic alternative to the usual egg hunt. Each printable card has a Bible truth and clue to the next card, at the end the kids find a fun treat (or their Easter basket, if that’s your thing). I plan on having some YumEarth gummies at the end of the hunt. The kids loved this last year and I don’t think they’ll even notice the clues are the same this year.😂

I love Christmas decorations! So obviously in my quest to make Easter a core memory, I need good Easter decorations too. When I saw this hand-painted Easter set online I literally ran to get my wallet. The stone actually rolls away and the cross can come off the hill to be added on Good Friday. I can’t wait to put this beautiful heirloom on display! I know I’m sharing this one a bit late for this year, but they do take preorders for next year.

We will absolutely be enjoying my April Apple Snacks coloring pages this year as well. They are based on Luke 24:6-7 “He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” I love having these on hand to keep littles busy during read-alouds or when the urge to be creative strikes. These pages are monthly, however they can be purchased month-to-month. If you do decide to subscribe you’ll also have access to all past Apple Snacks pages, which means you can still get to this months pages next year too!

Finally, books! Give me all the Easter books. We love a good book to go with any season and I’ve already been busy pulling out all of our Easter reading options so we can work our way through them. Books are such an easy way to add a fun and meaningful element to any holiday and good Easter books seem to have even more beauty built in. There’s nothing better than kids crowded around enjoying a picture book on mom’s lap or listening while they play, pausing to enjoy the beautiful pictures.
I’ve gathered our favorite Easter season books for you here!
I’m excited to add to this list as the years pass and make our Easter celebrations a full and happy memory for our children. What’s your favorite way to celebrate this amazing day and the beautiful story that leads up to it!?
