If you think finding a science board game for preschoolers is difficult (see my previous post), finding a solid Bible board game is even harder. Just like with science, the number of activities that are Bible related abound. A physical board game is a bit hard to come by in this age range though. I had almost given up, until I found the one I’m introducing you to today. I am so glad I stuck with my search!
Our favorite Bible game:
Noah’s Animal Rescue is well made, totally adorable, and set up in a way that encourages teamwork! I had never seen a board game with a Cooperative Kid’s Game emblem. I wasn’t quite sure what it meant, but I was pleasantly surprised!
The object of the game is to work together to get all the animals to the ark before the flood comes. You can choose the difficulty level of the game depending on the strategic skill level of the players. The more animals you add to the game the more difficult it is to get them all to the ark. We began with only three animals (the minimum). Players use terrain cards to move the animals along the path to the ark. At the same time, the rain token moves forward toward the “Great Flood” spot when a player draws a “rain” card. As you play, you can see how the animals move faster along the path when you work together.
This game is such a great way to relate the story of the flood to your preschoolers. Plus, it encourages communication and strategic thinking. Skills that I’m sure Noah and his family found very useful as they worked together as well.
Squeaks really enjoyed the adorable animal tokens and held an ongoing conversation of encouragement with them. She kept assuring them they would be safe throughout the entire game. Little Dude of course was drawn to the imminent danger of the flood, so he loved moving the flood token closer and closer, but was still invested in working together to get the animals to safety.
This game might not be heavily saturated in deep theology, but it’s the perfect companion to a lesson on Noah and the flood.
