So many kids these days can’t even tell you their parent’s first name much less remember their address and phone number and frankly, I think it’s a bit dangerous. Knowing personal information in an emergency situation could be life-saving. Plus I think it’s kind of empowering for little ones to understand these important life skills. “About me” themed lessons are such a fun way to incorporate these important life skills.
You’re going to love these “About Me” activities!
We did an About Me theme with Squeaks about a year ago and it was a hit. We kept it pretty basic then and now that she’s older there are a lot more activities I’d like to try with her.
So we’re expanding our About Me theme to include address and phone number, birthday, and a few other fun facts. Like most of my printable activities, turning the lesson into a game or pretend play activity seems to be a big hit and helps the information stick a bit better.
This first activity is a little warm-up interview where Squeaks can practice spelling and writing her name and birthday. Then we can talk about what she wants to be when she grows up (veterinarian) and what her favorite thing to do is (play with her stuffed animals). And finally, she can draw a little picture of herself and we can talk about facial features and things like eye and hair color.

These address and phone number activities are so fun:
I’m pretty excited about the “Call Home” activity. Squeaks is loving the fact that she can pretend to dial her important phone numbers on the phone image. I laminated the page to make it dry-erase and writing the phone numbers out on the lines provided has been a great number recognition review too. Of course I had to add my favorite Velcro dots (aka toddler cat-nip) to create a matching section. These kids just love Velcro! It makes for a super easy way to practice putting the phone numbers in the correct order. Extra numbers for this section come with this printable.

Finally, the “I Know My Address” activity is opening up all kinds of conversation about streets, cities, states, and countries. Squeaks has had a pen-pal for awhile now but I had always addressed the envelope later after she had dictated her message to me. Now she’s learning the parts of an address, what stamps are for, and asking more questions about different states (her pen-pal is in Tennessee). Next time we write to her pen-pal she can help! I laminated this one as well so it’s dry erase and she can practice addressing her little envelope as many times as she’d like.
